Easter in monochrome
Holidays are a good time to step back and observe the nature and purpose of things. I think that monochrome images serve that goal of understanding the nature of things, because rather than seeing what something is in the literal sense, we’re forced to see what something is about, and how it interacts with the space and the light around it. Black and white is a beautiful way to see exactly because it transforms the everyday into something altogether extraordinary.
Easter in particular is a good time to explore imagery and meaning. The close ties between the Christian holiday, Passover, the Pagan roots of Eostre, and the interesting ways that consumerism influences the celebration of Easter all lead to some marvelously interesting crossover and layers of imagery.
